Free Informal Support Group for parents, and is open to whomever arrives

This is an ongoing event every Wednesday
from 7:00-8:30 p.m.
Location: 80 E. Hillcrest
Dr., Suite 204 , Thousand Oaks CA 91360

of the future. When the baby does not survive, parents are left
with broken dreams, few memories, and many questions and emotions.

baby and about this experience often helps. In this support group
parents can share their experience with others who understand. It
is a safe place to express love and loss and to support others who have
had a pregnancy loss. The group is moderated by a mental health care and

HEART TO HEART-
COPING WITH PREGNANCY AND NEWBORN LOSS SUPPORT GROUP
Primary focus: Infant Loss
Free Formal Support Group for parents - Formal and Open to All
This is an ongoing event from 6:30-8 pm. Because it is a
formal group, call for more detail: (734) 246-7111
Location: Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital, Multipurpose Room, 2333
Biddle Avenue, Wyandotte, MI 48192
Sponsors: Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital - Wyanodtte, MI and Riverside
Osteopathic Hospital- Trenton, MI
Details: Many bereaved parents are surprised and unprepared for
the intensity of emotions they are now experiencing. After a short period,
the support for families experiencing a pregnancy or newborn loss often
disappears. Heart to Heart is an adult support group in the Detroit Metropolitan
area that provides a valuable means of understanding, sharing and resolving
painful feelings. Professionals with extensive bereavement training facilitate
the meetings. Special events held annually involving siblings, extended
family and friends include a Memorial Flower Planting in the spring, a
Walk of Remembrance in the fall, and a Holiday Candle Lighting Ceremony.
Self-help groups a form of magic made up of an assortment of unrelated
people who have only their loss and pain in common. Participants learn
that grief is a process; the sun will shine again, certain symptoms are
common, that they are not insane, a down day is not a relapse, and a good
day is not a cure, that people say horrible things when attempting to
comfort, and there are techniques they can use to help themselves.
WHY BEREAVEMENT
SUPPORT GROUPS WORK: Groups are a safe place to experience the pain of
the loss, accept the loss, adjust to the loss, and reinvest energy into
other activities. Groups provide emotional support as well as validation
support - in other words it validates to the bereaved that they are not
going crazy. They can talk, compare feelings about their new and unwanted
challenges, and learn that their fears and reactions are a normal part
of the grief process. Groups have long term availability. Friends and
family members may become weary of giving support, but ongoing groups
are there for as long as needed. People in grief give each other support
while they are learning, enjoying themselves, developing new skills, and
giving help to others. Although individual experiences may be different,
the common bonds these parents share are their feelings. Your healing
will be helped by sharing with and learning from the experience of others.
Bereavement support groups cannot be all things to all people, but they
can provide a very important service to the people whose needs they are
designed to meet. (from WHY BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUPS WORK- Adapted from:

and female facilitators for that particular group. Activities that might
be offered for bereaved families in the second support group meeting include
such things as: scrap booking of a memory album, making birth announcements,
making thank you notes, planting a memorial garden, knitting baby items,
making gifts to give to newly bereaved parents, or watching a short video.
Activities that might be offered for couples dealing with infertility
or adoption issues include: having a speaker come in who can offer resources
and information about treatments, adoption options, personal testimonials,
etc., doing a pampering mini spa outing or making a piece of jewelry that
has personal meaning. For the second meetings in the month, men join the
activity if it is a good fit for the guys, otherwise, the guys may go
for a cup of coffee, or do a sports activity, and their discussion takes
place during their time together with the facilitator. They join the ladies
at a designated time later in the meeting. Child care is not provided
at all of the GRACE Support Groups, please check the individual listing
to see if child care is available at the group you want to attend. Due
to the sensitive nature of where people may be emotionally after a loss
or with their infertility, we ask that babies and small children are not
brought with into the actual meetings. It is important to understand that
our facilitators are not professional psychologists or counselors, and
the the meetings are not intended to be a private counseling session.

JULIA ROSE
SUPPORT GROUP
Primary Focus: Infant Loss
This is a closed ongoing informal support group for parents times
to be announced
Cost per
person: Not listed
Location: Kent
First Church of the Nazarene, Kent,
WA
Sponsors: Kate Buster
Details: I am starting this support group in memory of my
daughter, Julia Keely. She was stillborn at 38 weeks on April 3rd, 2005;
the cause is unknown as of yet. Since we lost her, our world seems to
be crumbling. We are walking around lost in this life without her. Each
day is a struggle. After searching for support groups in the area I came
to find that there just isn't much out there. Each support group I found
offered only one meeting per month. That just isn't enough. We will be
starting out slow until we get a base of people and hopefully be able
to hold weekly sessions. Please know that I am not trained in handling
grief. Like most others experiencing the loss of their baby, I am just
trying to get through each day. This group will simply be a place where
people can come together and talk about their precious babies and the
pain they are dealing with because of their loss. Let us lean on eachother
and be friends. Meetings will be held at Kent First Church of the Nazarene.
Refreshments will be served and we will have informative handouts with
helpful links and uplifting messages. We welcome both men and women. If
you live in Kent, or a surrounding city, and are interested in becoming
a part of Julia's Rose Support Group or would like more information, please
send an email to Mommy2JuliaKeely@aol.com
